French Wanderers
A remarkable building

One of the oldest museums in France

Etienne KOPP

The prestigious Jouffroy family was responsible for the construction of this building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The beautiful Vosges sandstone façade is richly decorated in the flamboyant Gothic style. Have you noticed the gargoyles looking down on you from the top? Many details are also hidden inside the Tower...

Climb the spiral staircase and you'll be able to read the Gothic letters of the Ave Maria, carved into the phylacteries, the ribbons carved into the stone. Only visitors who reach the top of the Tower will have read the entire prayer!

Each year, the museum's two upper levels host a new temporary exhibition.

The archaeological collections in the Tour des Échevins

Since the 18th century, archaeological research has been carried out in the spa town, unearthing remains that bear witness to history. Exhibited on the ground and 1st floor of the Tower, these collections mainly illustrate the town's ancient past. Discover the secrets of Luxeuil subsoil: from Gallo-Roman funerary stelae to sigillated ceramics, not forgetting the wooden votive offerings discovered in the spa park.

Luxeuil most beautiful view

146 steps, a few steps and narrow passages, an old wooden door, and here you are on the highest terrace in Luxeuil!

The view has to be earned, but once you're at the top, you'll love it. The orientation table will guide you through the 360° landscape: See the 3 little bumps over there? That's the Planche des Belles Filles!

On a clear day, keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of the Alps!

Temporary exhibits

Each year, a local or national artist is featured on the top two floors of the Tower. Painters, sculptors, visual artists and illustrators can all exhibit at the Tower.

From 13 May to 31 October 2023, discover the C.O.U.L.E.U.R.S exhibition by Clémentine Martinez!
