The Tour des Échevins, the emblematic monument of Luxeuil-les-Bains, is a gem of the 15th century. It owes its name to the municipal magistrates of the time called les échevins (aldermen).

The prestigious Jouffroy family was responsible for the construction of this building between the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The beautiful Vosges sandstone façade is richly decorated in the flamboyant Gothic style. Have you noticed the gargoyles looking down on you from the top? Climb the spiral staircase and you'll be able to read the Gothic letters of the Ave Maria, carved into the phylacteries, the ribbons carved into the stone. Only visitors who reach the top of the Tower will have read the entire prayer!

Since the 18th century, archaeological research has been carried out in the spa town, unearthing remains that bear witness to history. Exhibited on the ground and 1st floor of the Tower, these collections mainly illustrate the town's ancient past. Discover the secrets of Luxeuil subsoil: from Gallo-Roman funerary stelae to sigillated ceramics, not forgetting the wooden votive offerings discovered in the spa park.
