Exposition Trésors d’abbayes : scriptoria et manuscrits au Moyen Âge (VIe - IXe siècles)
Abbey treasures: immerse yourself in the world of manuscripts.
From 23 May to 30 September 2025, the Musée de la Tour des Échevins in Luxeuil-les-Bains invites you on an exceptional journey to the heart of the Middle Ages with the exhibition "Trésors d'abbayes: scriptoria et manuscrits au Moyen Âge (VIe-IXe siècles)". Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the copyist monks, and discover the precious art of the illuminated manuscript, a treasure trove of knowledge and beauty that has shaped Western culture.
Through an educational and interactive tour, visitors can step back in time and enter a scriptorium, the monastic workshops where the works that were to transmit knowledge throughout medieval Europe were copied and decorated. Luxeuil Abbey, founded in the 6th century by Saint Columban, was one of the major intellectual centres of its time, thanks in particular to its scriptorium where an original and refined script was developed: the Luxeuil script.
