Emily Dickinson was born in 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts, and died in the same town in 1886. She is one of the greatest American poets in history. Born into a wealthy family with strong community ties, her life is shrouded in mystery: she lived an introverted, reclusive life from the age of thirty.
