Domaine du Château de La Chaize
Since its birth in 1676, the château, built to plans by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André Le Nôtre, has remained a family home. In 2017, the descendants of its founder, Jean-François de La Chaize d'Aix (brother of Louis XIV's confessor), passed it on to another family, that of Christophe Gruy. He and Boris Gruy - his nephew and General Manager - are determined to magnify this remarkable vineyard with the utmost respect for nature, and are developing a bold ecological approach: conversion to organic viticulture, agro-ecological approach, desire to be energy self-sufficient...
Extending over 450 hectares, including 300 hectares of woodland in a single block protecting the estate, the vineyard comprises 150 hectares of vines. Using a parcel-by-parcel approach, the 23 cadastral lieux-dits are spread across the Brouilly, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie and Morgon appellations, and are vinified and matured separately in our 108-metre-long winery (the longest in Beaujolais), to fully express the character and uniqueness of each terroir.
