Café littéraire : l'ours hante les récits
By re-reading James Oliver Curwood (1878 - 1927), we can reconnect with pure nature and its contemplation. An American novelist, he is, along with Jack London, one of the masters of tales of the Far North. He also wrote animal stories: Kazan (The Wolf Dog, 1914), Nomades du Nord (1919), and the famous Grizzly (Grizzly King, 1916), adapted for the cinema in 1988 by French director Jean-Jacques Annaud under the title L'Ours (The Bear). As well as an autobiographical account completed after his death by Mrs Dorothea A. Bryant at Mrs Curwood's request: Le fils des forêts (1930).
Theme: Since the dawn of time, bears have haunted the stories of people the world over.
Recent books include: Dans les pas de l'ours, by Emeric Fisset / L'ours, histoire d'un roi déchu, by Michel Pastoureau / La peau de l'ours, by Joy Sorman / L'ours! L'ours! by Julia Phillips.
